Five children were born to an Indian woman. Five-in-one babies are born every year; only one in tens of millions of births.
Monday was the day the girls were born at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, a state hospital in Jharkhand. Anita K²mari is their 27-year-old mom’s name.

There is a picture of the kids and the news on Twitter from the hospital.
“A woman from Chatar gave birth to five children at RIMS’s obstetrics and gynecology department.” The babies are being watched over by doctors in the newborn urgent care unit. It stated, “A successful delivery was carried out under the direction of Dr. Shashi Bala Singh.”
The woman was having five kids, as seen on an ultrasound. She gave birth by herself when she was seven months old.

Another doctor at the hospital, Dr. Rajiv Mishra, said that two of the babies had to be sent to another hospital because the hospital didn’t have enough room for them. Three of the babies were being cared for in the newborn intensive care unit. The kids in the first, third, and fifth groups are with their dads. For the first and third babies, it weighs 1.1 kilograms, and for the fifth boy, it weighs 750 grams. Dr. Mishra told The National, “They are very small babies who were born early.”
Each of the other two kids weighs 900 grams.
Dr. Kiran Shankar Das, an assistant professor of newborn medicine, said that the kids would need to be watched for at least 45 days to two months.
“They came into the world 27 weeks early.” The other two kids are safe, but one is on a respirator. He said the chance of them living was only 50–60%.
Twins, triplets, quadruplets, and quintuplets are more likely to be born now thanks to IVF, but Dr. Das said that wasn’t going to happen this time.
“The mother was getting fertility treatment; she was on an egg-inducing drug, but not IVF,” he said.

“This is the first time that quintuplets have been born in a hospital.” “A few months ago, we had quadruplets in the hospital,” he shared with me.
There are only about 55 million babies in the United States each year, so getting an IVF is very rare. There have been some single births in the country, though.
In 2015, a woman in northern Punjab had five girls in just ten minutes.

Another woman, 25 years old, had five children in Jaipur, western Rajasthan. One of them died before it was born.
