Navigating the Concert Scene with Kids: A Parent’s Perspective

Attending a concert with your child may be an exciting and intimidating event. I brought my daughter to Taylor Swift’s much-discussed Edinburgh “earthquake concert” this summer, and it was an unforgettable evening. It was an absolutely unique experience because of the intensity, the excitement, and yes, the actual seismic activity that was recorded throughout the event. Here are some suggestions to make sure you and your child have a great time at the concert if you’re thinking about taking them.

Make a Plan

Get your tickets as soon as they go on sale for popular performances because they tend to sell out quickly. This not only ensures your place but also provides you with time to select the seats that best suit your requirements. For example, if your youngster is small, choose seats a little bit away from the stage to avoid the most noisy sections.

Learn the guidelines and policies of the venue before the show. Certain locations impose limitations on what you can bring, such as food and beverages, bags, and cameras. Avoiding last-minute surprises can be achieved by being aware of these guidelines beforehand.

Get Ready for the Big Event

Attending a concert can take a long time, and you will probably spend much of it standing or dancing. Layer your clothing since crowded places might get warm. You and your youngster must wear comfortable shoes.

Stow away some snacks, a water bottle, your child’s ear protection, and any necessary medications in a compact bag. Since many concerts can get very loud, you can assist safeguard your child’s hearing by getting them earplugs or noise-canceling headphones.

Arriving at the location early has several advantages. It lets you avoid the line to find parking, pass security, and locate your seats. It also allows your child time to adjust to the new surroundings.

In the Concert

There are usually food and drink stands at concert venues, although there may be long waits and expensive costs. To maintain your energy levels, carry some snacks and a water bottle with you.

After settling into your seats, take a time to discover the closest restrooms and exits. This is crucial if your youngster needs a brief respite from the commotion and noise or in the event of an emergency.

Children tend to stray off because of the excitement and big crowds. Make sure to keep a tight check on your youngster and arrange a meeting place in case you end up apart. Think about writing your phone number on a piece of paper they can carry in their pocket or on their wrist.

For kids, concerts can be rather daunting. Take a break and spend some time in a quieter area if your child appears worn out or overstimulated. They may refuel and enjoy the remainder of the show with this.

Remember to snap some pictures or movies so you can look back on the event. But try not to hide behind your phone the entire time during the concert. Take in the occasion and make treasured memories with your youngster.

Following the Concert

It might be chaotic to leave a concert. Consider departing a few minutes before the concert concludes, or wait until most of the audience has left, to avoid the crush. Your departure will go more smoothly and calmly as a result.

On the ride home, discuss the concert with your youngster. As you share your own highlights, find out what they thought were the best portions. This increases their delight and aids in their experience processing.
